Welcome
ATES is the Association of Teachers of English of Senegal. It was created in the 70s but its official recognition only came in 1981. The association started reorienting its activities with the election of a National Board and the creation of mainly 2 regional branches (Dakar and Thies)
The association is hosted at the Bureau d’Anglais of the Ministry of Education where we have the Technical Advisor and his assistants.
The role of a teachers’ association in Education, policy and planning
Education is one of the most important keys to developing a country; therefore, if we refer to the importance of a Teachers’ Association in the teachers’ professional development we can see how essential it is for all teachers to identify themselves to their Teachers’ Association. In Senegal, it’s been a main issue. For years, a small group of teachers of English have devoted their time and money to setting up an effective Association of Teachers of English with national recognition.
Their main objective was to offer their colleagues an alternative developmental framework through exchanges, professional events organization, and a profound sense of belonging and worldwide collaboration through affiliation to other international professional organizations. Over the years, the Association of Teachers of English of Senegal has gained much in terms of recognition at the national and international levels.
